Blackhawk Transport was running billing and settlement out of spreadsheets sitting between three systems that didn’t talk. Today more than nine in ten of those transactions complete without a person.

Blackhawk ran what the industry calls turn-all-day operations — high-frequency, short-haul work where a tractor completes many loads in a shift. That volume is good for the business and punishing for a back office. Every turn generates its own billing event and its own settlement line, and at Blackhawk those events were being reconciled by hand.
The information needed to bill a load already existed. It sat in dispatch, in EDI transactions, and in data coming off the drivers’ mobile devices. What didn’t exist was any connection between the three. So people bridged the gap with spreadsheets, re-keying the same figures into whichever system needed them next.
The obvious cost was labor. The less obvious one was that a process held together by manual reconciliation can’t scale with the operation — more turns means more keying, and eventually more people.
“The EBE Turn All Day project is incredibly successful. If we had to perform these tasks manually, we would have incurred significant expenses in both systems and labor.”

BeyondAI™ was put between the systems rather than on top of them. Dispatch, EDI and mobile data now feed the same automated invoicing and settlement workflow in real time, so a completed turn becomes a billed load without anyone opening a spreadsheet.
Transactions that match Blackhawk’s rules complete on their own. The ones that don’t become exceptions with the reason attached, which is the only part of the process that actually needed a person’s judgment.
Nothing was replaced. The dispatch system, the EDI setup and the mobile platform all stayed exactly where they were.
More than 90% of invoice and settlement processes now run without manual intervention, and manual data entry across the workflow is down 97%. The spreadsheets are gone, and with them the disconnected billing workflow they were holding together.
“EBE’s solution has been incredibly successful for our organization. It eliminated significant manual effort across billing and settlement by integrating directly with our dispatch, mobile, and EDI systems. We now have far greater visibility, reduced operational cost, and a streamlined process that supports both our customers and drivers.”

If billing and settlement are held together by somebody re-keying between dispatch, EDI and mobile, that’s the same problem Blackhawk had. We’ll show you what it looks like connected.
